Green lipped mussel powder is an extract of this cultivated shellfish, similar to glucosamine and chondroitin. Green lipped mussels are a highly nutritious source of proteins, vitamins, and trace minerals. In addition, they are an important source of mucopolysaccharides, and the free-radical scavenging enzyme, superoxide dismutase (SOD).
Mucopolysaccharides are carbohydrate groups, which form a major role in all body tissues and are therefore critical components of the body. Their role is well known in the control and lubrication of body joints.
The anti-inflammatory properties of green lipped mussel powder are well documented for joint related conditions and also on eczema and psoriasis, as well as the intestinal endothelium, thereby easing the symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease (including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease).
