Maca powder is sourced from the roots of the lepidium meyenii. It is a member of the brassicaceae family which also holds cruciferous vegetables. Maca is closely related, taxonomically, to cabbage, watercress and rapeseed. 

For centuries maca has grown wild in the Andes Mountains of South America. The root has a history of being used as a folk medicine in the Andean region of Peru. No other food plant exists in the world which will grow at such a high altitude and survive.

Maca powder is non-stimulatory and can be used in a wide variety of product applications. It is widely recognised as an adaptogen, an ingredient which helps the body to adapt to stressors.
